Week 4: February 20-February 22 (15 hours)

Total: 61 hours

Week 5: February 27-March 1 (15 hours)

Total: 76 hours

Week 6: March 6-March 8 (15 hours)

Total: 91 hours

This week Roger and I worked very closely and finally got into the full swing of things with National Hospital Week. I wrote two employee bios that were to be put in the National Hospital Week LifeWorks edition. I had Roger edit them and he only had a few changes. He said they were overall very good. The few mistakes I made were hospital terms which I was not quite familiar with yet. However, I am learning them more as I go. After I made the corrections, I added the bio into three folders: the "employee bio" folder, the "banquet script" folder, and the "check-off list" folder. It is extremely important to be organized with the bios because not only will they be published in LifeWorks but they will also be read at the banquet in May, which honors the employees for their dedicated work to PRMC. The bios Roger sent me were written or typed on a form that the designated managers fill out. The form asked questions such as the employees' history, experience, and fun things they do in their spare time. My job is to take the responses and put them into a well-written paragraph form. Another big project I worked on throughout the week was the Peninsula Partners member database. The database contains information about each members such as their address, email, if they are inactive or active, and more. Rhonda sent me a 90 page email list of the members and a job that consisted of two things. First, I needed to enter each member into the database and see if they are active or inactive. Second, if they were active and their email was not on the Constant Contact list, I added their email to Constant Contact so they could receive monthly newsletters. This list was an extremely long process. My goal was to finish before the end of the internship so I could successfully increase the number of contacts. By increasing the number of contacts, more Peninsula Partner members receive information. I concluded the busy week by working on bounce back emails. I surprisingly got a lot of letters back from the ones I sent out to members with invalid emails. We had either entered their emails wrong in the system or their email had changed over the years. By fixing the emails and making them correct, the bounce back rate will go down.

The week started off with a very informative morning huddle. Everyone had a lot going on and the department was busy. I had many tasks and assignments on my plate as well. The marketing department had a PRMC clothing sale and the orders came in Monday morning. The items were put in my office and I organized everyone's purchases in alphabetical order. I handed them out to people as they came in my office to pick them up throughout the day. For the people that did not pick up their items on the first day, I sent out a mass email reminding them that it arrived. I had quite a few people stop by throughout the week. On Monday, I was introduced to a new website I would be working on called Coffey Communication. Coffey Communication is used for healthcare marketers to provide digital and print solutions for their marketing campaigns. This website is where I would be putting together the summer edition of LifeStyle, the paper newsletter that gets sent to Peninsula Partner members. I caught on quickly and already starting formatting different parts of the newsletter. It was fun and interesting to learn about Coffey Communication because I had been working on formatting email newsletters to be sent out and now I learned how to format print newsletters. Another big assignment I was given this week was to write an article for the Salisbury Daily Times! The article was going to be on National Volunteer Week in April and I had to send it to Gwenn by mid-March for editing. I began researching and making an outline for it. Later in the week, I received two more letters sent back from bounce back members. I fixed both emails and made sure the two were correct in the system. On Tuesday, I sat through an hour-long meeting regarding HealthFest. It was the first meeting of the year discussing all of the logistics for this large event to be taken place in April. It was a great experience to see how such a large event gets planned. It was also important for me to participate because I will be working and helping out at HealthFest. Aside from continuing my work on the Peninsula Partner database and adding active members to Constant Contact, I ended the week by finishing the March newsletter for Peninsula Partners. I had Rhonda review it before it was sent out and she had no edits. It was exciting to send out this newsletter because I have added almost 200 more contacts to the list compared to the last newsletter that was set out.

As soon as I arrived at the office Monday morning, I had National Hospital Week information sitting on my desk. I spent most of my shift that day writing bios and sending them to Roger for editing. Once Roger got back to me with a few corrections, I made all the changes and uploaded the bios to their appropriate files. Throughout the week, there were a few people that got the wrong sizes for their PRMC clothes. I sent them to Laren so we could work on getting the problem fixed. There was a "St. Patty's Day Walk" and "March for Paws" event coming up so another task I was assigned was to gather items for the events. I went downstairs to storage and rounded up 300 koozies and 50 dog tags to be sent out. Another big part of my week was that I finally finished writing a draft of the Salisbury Daily Times article. I sent it to Rhonda first for some basic editing to make sure I was on the right track with my topic.  She sent it back to me with minor edits and I then sent the corrected draft to Gwenn. Gwenn got back to me and said she had zero mistakes! The article was sent in and should be in the paper by April. The end of the week was filled with busy work. I got more letters back from bounce back emails and corrected them in the system. Then, I worked more on the Peninsula Partners database and added active emails into Constant Contact. I am coming a long way with Peninsula Partners project and I should have all the active members added by the end of my internship. Finally, I got a head start on the Constant Contact newsletter for April. April is a busy month with events and I wanted to make the newsletter as detailed and informative as possible.
