This week was very important because with Spring Break coming up, there was a lot to get done beforehand. I had discussed earlier with Rhonda and Roger that I would be out for the week and they were fine with it. It started off a slower week because most of the department was in meetings all day Monday. I began working on observing and documenting the ratings of the open/click/bounce numbers for Constant Contact since I have been sending out newsletters. I have made a lot of progress. More people are opening and clicking the newsletters, meaning more people are finding out important information on Peninsula Partner events. I continued to work on the database entries for Peninsula Partners and Constant Contact. My goal was to get a lot completed since I will be not be doing work for a week. Also this week, I had to gather another set of 100 koozies from storage for a race that PRMC was sponsoring. Later, I helped organize and distribute shirts that Laren ordered for the new Richard A. Henson Cancer Center in Ocean Pines. I was even able to keep a shirt for my own! I ended the week on Wednesday with a very exciting experience. I got to meet with Lisa Bryant, host of DelmarvaLife on WBOC! Lisa Bryant and her cameraman did an interview with a PRMC cardiac respiratory nurse, Caroline. Caroline talked about the free women’s health screenings at PRMC such as getting information on EKG, lipids, BMI, and more. I got to follow the cameraman around and watch the whole segment. It was an incredible experience to see an interview from the other side.

SPRING BREAK

This week was an extremely busy and important one. Since I was gone for Spring break, there was a lot of catching up to do and tasks waiting for me. During the Monday morning huddle, I was caught up to speed on everything going on and what was happening around the hospital. I started off the week by getting caught up on all the emails and events that took place while I was out. Upon my return, I had eight Peninsula Partner member respond through mail about their bounce back emails. I was shocked there were so many. I updated their information and made sure everything was accuarate. Another one of one my tasks throughout the week was to get caught up on PRMC media clips. I scanned all of the February and March clips and entered them in the appropriate places, on both the computer database and the filing cabinet. On Monday, Rhonda gave me a medical information card that people are supposed to keep on their fridge in the case of an emergency. The department wants something more creative. My job was to research new ideas and see what other hospitals do, such as put a medical information card on a pill bottle or wallet. I got creative and began researching some ideas. On Tuesday, I had many tasks to complete. First, I had to edit a few things on the National Hospital Week bios and script. Roger found typos so I was assigned to reread though everyone's bios, even the ones I did not write, and edit any errors I found. Next, I used excel to create a sign-up sheet for Peninsula Partner events. I typed the different events that were coming up and made a spreadsheet to easily write the attendees name and number of guest. The sheet was created to keep things more organized for events. After the spreadsheets, I completed the April Constant Contact newsletter. I went over it with Rhonda beforehand and she said I could send it out. Finally, I helped Rhona by writing all of the upcoming Peninsula Partner events on a big sheet to hang in the office and at events. It makes it easier to keep track of everything going on and for people to be aware of upcoming dates. At the end of the day on Tuesday, I attended another hour-long meeting regarding HealthFest. This meeting was very important because it was the final gathering before the actual event on Saturday, April 1. Everyone went over what they were in charge of and what needed to be finalized. I got my assignment of working the front table when people walk in. I am very excited to have a role in such a big and important event. On Wednesday, I got to be apart of yet another incredible experience. I was able to go with Roger and watch him record an interview for Delmarva Life on WBOC. He was chosen to talk about HealthFest and I went to the actual WBOC studio to watch. The interviewers were Lisa Bryant, who I met previously, and the other host of the show, Jimmy Hoppa. The segment was going to be aired that night at 5:00 p.m., March 29. It was amazing to see the complete other side of a broadcasted show.

Today is the day! I usually do not work Saturdays but today was an exception for the big HealthFest event. I came to help set up for a little before the event started and was taught exactly what I would be doing throughout the day. I worked the table right in front of the doors when guest walked in. My job was to welcome everyone as they entered and ask them if they were getting screenings done. If so, I instructed them on how to fill out the required consent forms and what to do with them when they were finished. If not, I just gave them a map of the area and a free PRMC tote bag. In my role, I was required to be very upbeat and welcoming. I enjoyed being at the front table and it helped me work on my interpersonal skills. It was also very fast paced and I was constantly on my feet greeting and explaining forms to new people. At the same time, I was also counting on a clicker to see how many people walked in the door of the event. There was just shy of 1,000 people! HealthFest 2017 was a successful event and an incredible occasion to be apart. I truly felt like I made a difference and I had a lot of fun doing it.
